Grow Your Own Food
August 13, 2020Buying fruits and vegetables from the market is easier and might be cheaper. To some degree… I agree!
So why do I have to grow them by myself?
Resilience, self-sufficiency, community uplifting and ability to help and share in times of needs. These are the benefits of being able to grow food plants. By this time you may have realized that planting is not just a hobby anymore, it is a must.
Learning to plant is an additional skill. To create simple backyard, rooftop or indoor gardening you might just need to learn simple techniques from reliable learning resources. With limited space, vertical gardening/farming will be a great option.
Of course, it is different from large scale farming where the assistance of experts with related specializations are greatly needed. Personal farming will provide you with unlimited amount of food depending on how you mastered that skill. You can double the amount and quality of yield when you double the effort in learning and the willingness to spend time taking care of your plants. Plus, you can be sure of what your home grown food has gone through before consuming it.
The quantity and quality of produce you buy depend greatly on the finite amount of money you are ready to spend. But in personal farming, make it, “your urban vertical farming”, the quantity and quality of your own produce depend only on your infinite capabilities.
Living in the midst of pandemic, climate disturbance, climate change, natural phenomenon, economic disaster, government failures and personal misfortunes. Learning to grow your own food is a life saver.
